Huntefisher IV

Northern Cape co-hosted with Hunter Fisher

April 20th – 24th 2015

Come along with me for a midweek break away from traffic jams, load shedding and bad news, 4 days of fishing for all that the Vaal and the Orange river can offer.
Co-hosted by myself and Jacques Marais, SA Fly Fishing National champion 2012, you can be rest assured that you will receive the right inside information, fly fishing techniques, tactics and flies to land the catch of the season.

The fishing is unbelievable…Very little skill is required and even novices or newcomers to the sport will have an unforgettable and satisfying experience! A lot of emphasis is placed on safety. This safari is a must for the younger generation and we actively encourage and promote father and son bonding trips.

We use small rubber ducks to take you, our client, downstream to provide an action filled experience. This introduces you to the more remote areas, generally not accessible. A packed lunch is supplied in order to avoid unnecessary travel away from the spot. Each boat is fitted with an outboard motor to save your energy for the fishing.

Fishing with Hunter Fisher is strictly catch and release – it’s all about the experience. When teaching newcomers, a lot of emphasis is placed on the humane handling of fish to be released and the right way to handle fish. We maintain the ultimate respect for the river, its pristine surroundings and its wily inhabitants.

Hunter Fisher’s camps were designed with the least possible impact on the environment. We offer our guests a “real’ bush experience with all the creature comforts of hot running water, flush toilets and comfortable bedding. With about 100km of private waters, Hunter Fisher was spoiled for choice of sites. We have selected three unique locations along the Orange and Vaal rivers. Our base camps are nestled into the shade under a variety of acacia, willow and gum trees. Guests are housed in comfortable individual tents with a single stretcher, mattress and warm bedding, no sleeping bag experience. A bedside table with lamp completes the furnishings leaving enough space for travelling bags and fishing kit.

Our main focus of interaction in the base camp is around the camp fire where you can sit back and sample our other passion – bush cooking! This is where friendships are forged under starlit skies with the cry of a jackal and the call of frogs and crickets – the only music you will hear! Most of the food is prepared in the traditional African way – on an open fire. Fresh bread is baked daily. The dining experience we aim to offer you, our client, is not seen as secondary to the fishing experience. A lot of emphasis is placed on high quality, traditional and interesting cuisine.

Special dietary requirements can be catered for by prior arrangement (diabetic, vegetarian, Kosher and Halaal).
There is always the possibility that the Orange River or the Vaal River is not accessible due to heavy rains or floods, however one or the other is usually fishable. In the unlikely event that fishing is not possible due to water conditions, we will reschedule your trip at your convenience without additional costs. This will be done prior to your arrival to eliminate any inconvenience or unnecessary expense to yourself.

Costs are R 5,450.00 per person.Deposit of 50 % is payable to confirm your booking. Balance of payment 30 days before the start of your safari.
